Spinoza, being always the prick he was, uses a metaphor to criticize your limited behavior. Maybe he could say that because he removed the limits from his behavior.

If it were so, we can all collectively wonder, did Spinoza die from encephalitis caused by an STD he got in an orgy with Evangelical Zionists?

Maybe, some self-imposed limits on behavior are good because they spare us from unnecessary pain or aggravation.
