WEF (World Entertainment Friday), Week 28
Weekly selection of somewhat unusual music from around the world
From the darkest corners of YouTube, here are some songs that you’re unlikely to ever hear on FM radio.
If you know something that would fit in, let me know in the comments.
Artist: Os Tubarões
Title: Rasposta (Response (?) (standard Portuguese resposta)
Country: Cape Verde
Year: 1980 / 2010 remastered
Caboverdian folk collective, active 1976-1994. Its name means «The Sharks» but I swear by yogurt I wasn’t aware of the Shark Week when I picked this.
Artist: Egschiglen
Title: Нутгийн замд (Nutgiin zamd, ~On the Country Roads)
Country: Mongolia
Year: 2006
Mongolian folk collective, active 1991-2022 (?).
Artist: White Mahala
Title: Șarpele de dudău (literally «hemlock snake» but it’s likely an idiom :)
Country: Romania
Year: 2018
And here’s some Romanian folk for Friday mood.
I loved the one from Romania. They have many videos on You Tube. I wish they had English captions in their videos. I also liked the one from Cape Verde. It sounds Spanish.
Definitely NOT from the darkest corners or YouTube. The Egschiglen pieces was my favorite this week.
