WEF (World Entertainment Friday), Week 35
Weekly selection of somewhat unusual music from around the world
From the darkest corners of YouTube, here are some songs that you’re unlikely to ever hear on FM radio.
If you know something that would fit in, let me know in the comments.
Artist: Jimi Tenor
Title: Night in Loimaa
Country: Finland
Year: 2000
Jimi Tenor (Lassi Osmo Tapio Lehto), Finnish jazz (or something like that) multi-instrumentalist.
Artist: Бутидэй Дондок-Сэрэн (Butidey Dondok-Seren)
Title: Адуушан (Aduushan, Herdsman)
Country: Russia (Buryatia)
Year: 2017
I don’t know much about this man except that he was born in the Inner Mongolia region of China but is now a «Merited Artist» of Buryat Republic. (They still use these Soviet-style honorifics in Russia.)
Artist: Uchpa
Title: Allichakusaq (I’ll Prepare (?))
Country: Peru
Year: 2023
Peruvian folk-rock band singing in Quechua.
That Finnish piece should be a movie score.
What a trip that last one was! Puppies, babies, Quechua shaman doing impersonations of Lynyrd Skynyrd!
