World Entertainment Friday, Week 44
Weekly selection of somewhat unusual music from around the world
From the darkest corners of YouTube, here are some songs that you’re unlikely to ever hear on FM radio.
If you know something that would fit in, let me know in the comments.
Artist: Erick Manana
Title: Revirevinay taloha (We Went Back and Forth (?))
Country: Madagascar
Year: ?
This song sounds vaguely familiar. People in YouTube comments mention Norwegian pop band A-ha but we know it’s The Everly Brothers.
Artist: Greip
Title: Vihma Loits (Rain Spell)
Country: Estonia
Year: 2011
Just as you’re having a good time, someone is trying to call rain on you.
Artist: Diamond Platnumz
Title: Zuwena
Country: Tanzania
Year: 2023
Although it doesn’t sound like one, it’s a sad song about a girl who took a wrong turn.
Madagascar is fun! Estonia is dark and oh so sinister. And Tanzania is a lesson in the consequences of primogeniture. Too bad he can't throttle the stupid father in the grave for giving the inheritance to one. It's how superstition was used to force South Africans into the mines, because only the oldest son could own the property and the others had to sell their bodies to pay the taxes on it.
Thr first one doesn't seem like The Everly Brothers. To me it sounds like Neil Young's Heart of Gold.
